Visit to Barnsley FC
We visited Barnsley FC on Bank Holiday Monday to take part in Bruce Dyer’s Love Life Festival. Bruce is a Christian ex-pro footballer who has a passion for working in prisons, particularly HMP Doncaster where Philip, our vicar, used to be Chaplain. Bruce continues his work there and the Festival raised money for his charity. The picture shows one of our young people, Demetrius, with Bruce.

Spring has sprung!
At Christ Church we have been plodding through extreme weather over the past three months. Fancy having to clear the snow away on Palm sunday! So now the daffodils are out, Pitsmoor looks beautiful! an inner city gem indeed! We have had a great holiday club, and have just started our Mission in Acts series last sunday which is available in the download section. We have also held our Annual Church meeting. Mary Reid has stepped down as Warden after 12 years, we are very grateful to her for all her work for Christ Church during that time. Brian Vivian has stepped up to be Warden alongside Lionel Heafield. Our photo shows Curate Hannah in full flow as Mary the Martian at the Holiday Club.

Prayer of Sir Francis Drake
prayer from my recent talk..some of you asked for the words
Prayer of Sir Francis Drake
Disturb us, Lord, when We are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.
Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.
Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.
We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push into the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.
New Wine
A group from Christ Church had a great week at the New Wine Conference at Newark. We’ll be back next year!
David Blunkett at Pye Bank School
David Blunkett MP visited Pye Bank Church of England School last Friday to attend an anti-bullying assembly taken by the Y3 pupils. Three groups had prepared three anti-bullying scenarios. A big thank you to Pat Limb for overseeing the event and for doing some incredible baking for a bit of a ‘do’ afterwards. Photo shows Pat (right) with teachers Ms Khan and Amanda.
Hannah Jackson, our new curate
Hannah was ordained Deacon by Bishop Steven at Sheffield Cathedral
on July 1st. More pictures on the Christ Church Facebook site
Jubilee Garden party
We put out the bunting, stewed the tea bags and splat the rat for a traditional olde English tea party for the Jubilee. It was
a great community event with lots of folk helping and some new faces.
