GenR8 news for April 2012

GenR8 is our Friday evening group for young people in year 6 and above.  This is just to let everyone know our schedule over the Easter holidays.

While we’re between youth workers (is that an inter-iuvenis-artifex?) (only actually funny if you thought inter regnum was a funny set of words) (and not very funny even then…), we’re going to have a slightly longer break over Easter than usual. So:

There is no GenR8 tonight (30 March 2012), then for the two weeks of the Easter Holidays, or for the first week back after Easter (ie 27 April 2012). We restart as normal on the 4 May. I’ll put up a confirmation post here before hand to remind everyone that it’s on, and then we’ll have a plan for what’s coming up…

Any questions, just get in touch with Richard Hanson. Thanks!

Happy birthday Yvonne!

One of our Church Army workers, Yvonne Hayes, who runs our charity shop ‘Rainbow’s End‘ celebrated a rather special 60th birthday today.

Ange made this incredible piece of art for her – which we just wanted to share with the world too:

The Cup of Tea

The traditional post service cup of tea is often a point at which we pick up some of the more pointed or controversial things said in our ministry.

Here, Huw Thomas reflects on virals, bubbles and money.

“Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come”. So begins the ‘Kony 2012’ video, a viral that thrives through the internet and has inspired our young folks to action. It highlights the actions of Joseph Kony, leader of the awfully named “Lord’s Resistance Army”, a gaggle of thugs who have terrorised the north of Uganda and surrounding areas through a particularly sordid campaign of kidnapping, abusing and brutalising their army of child soldiers.

Music

We love to worship God in all kinds of different ways at Christ Church. We sometimes use more traditional hymns but also love to worship Jesus with contemporary Christian music. A new band has just started to lead worship in church services.

Future Light

Christ Church has many different nationalities. Future Light is a group which meets monthly. It is primarily for members for whom English is a second language. We aim to study the Bible together and to share unique insights with the church from a developing world understanding. We are also seeking to develop leadership and confidence within the group.

New website – welcome!

Welcome to the new on-line home of Christ Church Pitsmoor.

We’re an open Evangelical church in the heart of one of Sheffield’s most interesting and exciting areas.  We have a wide range of cultures, ages and expressions of worship, and we try to be open to learning from each other.  If you’re interested in finding out more about Jesus, and how we’re trying to live out His good news, get in touch or come along – we’re happy to talk.

We’re still working on this new website, but there’s already a lot of information here, and more will be added regularly.

New features, just launched, include our downloads page, where you can see this week’s newsletter and download some of the teaching materials we’re working with at the moment.

There’s also a new jobs page, which will be updated shortly, when we’ve finalised the advert and job spec for our new youth worker. We’re hoping to have all that information up on the site in the next week, but do feel free to get in touch before then if you have any questions.
