Christ Church Pitsmoor

My Life, My Community

The Adventure playground has been a vital recourse for Pitsmoor for many years. it is fantastic and a privledge to help the adventure playground be a great recourse for many moor. however this street art session was not just about making the recourse attractive to users for the foreseeable future. neither was it just a fantastic session to engage young people in a creative way. although these are amazing things, this session was so much more!

we asked the young people what’s great about the adventure playground and essentially a community of difference is what came about. I asked a lad while he was drawing, what is great about pitsmoor? “it brings people together from all over the world” he replied. you see and feel that through this imagery. what happened was amazing, different organisations, different young people, different nationalities and varying ages. what happened is street art, we shared our creativity, fun, food and friendship to create something amazing, community.

“As i walk”

Well, we’ve done it! Very satisfying. Superb support from Chris Limb and Chris Barber who walked every step with faith and determination. We had a bit of a low point as we slogged along the road from Swinton to Rotherham in the absence of an expected towpath on the canal. A 4 mile to Rotherham sign popped up, followed by a hill up to Rawmarsh, but real guts and determination (including Jill O’Sullivan who had joined us for the day) clicked in and we made it into Rotherham, total of 15 miles for the day. On our diverted way through Swinton, Jill met a work colleague who was passing in a car, and coming into Rotherham we ‘bumped’ into an contact from my HMP Doncaster days, another one of those God moments. Here is the prayer we have been giving out to anyone we have met on the way:

“As I walk through life
during the smooth quiet times,
the rough difficult times,
the foggy, unclear times,
please give me a sense that Your Presence is with me
At this moment may I know that my footsteps have a guide
and a sure hand to lead me”

Centenary Walk

Just a reminder that the two congregations come together on Sunday at 10.30a.m. for a Pentecost Communion with Archdeacon Malcolm Chamberlain.

Philip Ireson, Chris Barber and Chris Limb set out on a Centenary Walk across the Diocese from Adlingfleet in the far north east and then walk 60 miles over four days along rivers and canals to Sheffield Cathedral. Watch out on our Facebook site, Christ Church Pitsmoor,  for updates
