Christ Church Pitsmoor

“As i walk”

Well, we’ve done it! Very satisfying. Superb support from Chris Limb and Chris Barber who walked every step with faith and determination. We had a bit of a low point as we slogged along the road from Swinton to Rotherham in the absence of an expected towpath on the canal. A 4 mile to Rotherham sign popped up, followed by a hill up to Rawmarsh, but real guts and determination (including Jill O’Sullivan who had joined us for the day) clicked in and we made it into Rotherham, total of 15 miles for the day. On our diverted way through Swinton, Jill met a work colleague who was passing in a car, and coming into Rotherham we ‘bumped’ into an contact from my HMP Doncaster days, another one of those God moments. Here is the prayer we have been giving out to anyone we have met on the way:

“As I walk through life
during the smooth quiet times,
the rough difficult times,
the foggy, unclear times,
please give me a sense that Your Presence is with me
At this moment may I know that my footsteps have a guide
and a sure hand to lead me”

A great Easter

Church was full on Easter Sunday when the two congregations united to proclaim that Christ is Risen! Thank you everyone who made the church inside and outside look so good. The flowers were inspirational.  If you are interested in what we got up to at the annual Church meeting then there are some  of the reports there.

Breath Deep

We had a great day on Saturday 25th January, 2014 with 200 young Christians from all over south Yorkshire for Breathe deep!

12 young people went from our mission partnership which is fantastic. We had a great day worshiping God, exploring being a Christian in different settings, playing games, eating, laughing and having a great time.

end of evening prayer and worship

end of evening prayer and worship

A worship event that is organised by churches across the city and is for young people 11-18 from across the city. The worship band were from All Saints Ecclesall, teaching provided by Mark Russell with fun and enthusiasm provided by the young people. throughout the evening young people gave heart felt response and a longing to meet with God.  the teaching was focused on the lords prayer in particular “our farther”, trusting God and trusting the power of praying in the name of God.

There were 3 C’s to remember

C – caring

C – Close

C – Competent

we look forward to the next one on 10th July.

Spring has sprung!

mary2At Christ Church we have been plodding through extreme weather over the past three months. Fancy having to clear the snow away on Palm sunday! So now the daffodils are out, Pitsmoor looks beautiful! an inner city gem indeed! We have had a great holiday club, and have just started our Mission in Acts series last sunday which is available in the download section. We have also held our Annual Church meeting. Mary Reid has stepped down as Warden after 12 years, we are very grateful to her for all her work for Christ Church during that time. Brian Vivian has stepped up to be Warden alongside Lionel Heafield. Our photo shows Curate Hannah in full flow as Mary the Martian at the Holiday Club.

Alpha Away Day

We had a great day over at Woodsetts Church for our Alpha Holy Spirit Day. We enjoyed great teaching, fun together, intimate worship, prayer ministry and a lovely pub lunch followed by a short walk. About 25 of us spent the day together.

Image invite friends, family, neighbours. It will be a great opportunity. team met Monday evening for some training and we are really expectant that God is going to work in people’s lives. Also consider coming for your own faith if you have felt a bit dry recently or struggling with faith. It’s a great place to come as you are and explore.

Prayer of Sir Francis Drake

prayer from my recent talk..some of you asked for the words

Prayer of Sir Francis Drake

Disturb us, Lord, when We are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.
We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push into the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.
