Christ Church Pitsmoor

Community Involvement

Christ Church is a well-known community venue and we’ve hosted a number of theatre shows and public events over many years, drawing in capacity audiences of 250 to 350 from all sections of this multi-ethnic community and further afield across Sheffield, and drawing in asylum seekers who use the church for sleeping and eating. In the 1980s the building was used as a rehearsal and performance space by the Sheffield Youth Theatre and is a favourite venue for the Riding Lights Theatre Company, partially because the flexibility of space allows for their elaborate set design and also because the volunteer group within the church is geared up to host community events.

Recent community events/performances include:

May 2017: Zero Budget Film Festival, showing amateur films from all over the world

May 2017: Concert by Sheffield choir ‘Body of Sound’, raising money for ASSIST

December 2016: ‘Three Acres and a Cow’, national touring show

May 2016: Brexit debate

May 2015: Election hustings

June 2016: Riding Lights theatre company production

February 2016: TEDx Pitsmoor – evening of talks

November 2015: Riding Lights theatre company production

June 2015: TEDx Pitsmoor – evening of talks
